The NIH campus is located in Bethesda, Maryland, just 10 miles from the center of Washington, D.C.
Driving to NIH: When driving to NIH, plan some extra time to get through the security checkpoints at the visitor entrances to campus. Be aware that visitor parking lots on the NIH campus can fill up quickly. Consider taking public transportation.
Parking: Participants are encouraged to park in the NIH Visitor Gateway Center Lot: Gateway Parking Garage (MLP-11). Cost: $2 per hour for the first three hours, $12 maximum for the entire day. Public Transportation: Metrorail service is available from Washington’s Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) and from Union Station (railway). Take Metro’s Red Line to the Medical Center Station. The station’s escalators exit onto the NIH campus. Pedestrians entering the campus will need to enter via Gateway Center, which is the main visitor entrance. Gateway Center is open Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
