Gia K. Voeltz, PhD, University of Colorado
Gia Voeltz is a Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder and is an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Her lab is focused on understanding how organelles get their shape. She studies how integral membrane-shaping proteins and the cytoskeleton regulate the complex structure of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and how the ER in turn regulates the structure of other organelles at membrane contact sites (MCSs). Her current research goals are aimed at unraveling the factors and functions of ER MCSs and the mechanism of ER-associated organelle division.
